Understanding mining

Mining is a framework of activities in the context of search, development (control), processing, utilization and sale of minerals (minerals, coal, geothermal, oil and gas). Mining Science is a branch of science that includes job search, investigation, feasibility study, mining preparation, mining, processing and sale of minerals or rocks that have economic meaning (valuable). Mining can also be defined as activities, technologies and businesses related to the mining industry from prospecting, exploration, evaluation, mining, processing, refining, transportation to marketing.

mining is classified into 3 types, namely Group A (referred to as strategic material), Class B (vital material), and Group C (non strategic and non-vital material). Group A material is an important item for defense, security and strategic to ensure the state's economy and most of it is only allowed to be owned by the government, for example oil, uranium and plutonium. Meanwhile, Group B Material can guarantee the life of many people, for example gold, silver, iron and copper. Group C material is an ingredient that is not considered to directly affect the lives of many people, for example salt, sand, marble, limestone and asbestos.

a. People's Mining is mining mining activities conducted by local people in small-scale or mutual assistance with simple equipment for their own livelihood.
b. Small-scale mining is mining business activities managed by local communities and village cooperative units.
c. Unlicensed mining is mining that is cultivated without legal permits such as illegal mining.

The main job of a mining expert is to free and retrieve the minerals and rocks that have economic significance of the parent rock and then bring it to the surface of the earth to be utilized. The basic mining activities themselves consist of dismantling, loading and transporting. To carry out the main tasks perfectly it should also perform additional jobs or supporters such as roads, disposal, stockpile, drainage, ladder, reclamation, safety and health as well as maintenance.

Mining Engineering is an engineering discipline that studies minerals, oil, natural gas and coal from general surveys (propagation), exploration, mining (exploitation), processing, refining, transportation, to marketing so that can be utilized by humans. Engineering in Mining Engineering includes designing, exploration (finding and analyzing feasibility), exploitation methods.

Mining Engineering (determining the technique of excavation, planning and control) and processing of environmentally sound materials. In Mining Engineering, education is emphasized on analytical and practical skills (applied) for research purposes as well as practical applications.
Mining Engineering has 2 (two) optional path options, namely Exploration Mine and Public Mine. At the exploration mine, the education provided is comprehensive in all aspects of mining exploration activities.

While in the general mine, the field of study covers part of the pre mining activities, which are related to the selection of mining methods and the needs of facilities or infrastructure, design & engineering, developing, and mining activities (collection, loading, transportation and cost control). The four main activity components of the public mine are supported by various activities such as mapping, stability of excavation, design and engineering, service, energy, maintenance, occupational health and safety, ventilation, water control and reclamation, and geological understanding, mineralogy, mineral deposits, minerals processing and marketing.
